But these "broken arms" had not anticipated the arrival of a vigil like no other: Walter, a former African warlord who will send them to hell ...。1937年淞沪抗战爆发，战火迅速蔓延至苏州。珠宝商方元的太太及女儿在一次汉奸的破坏行动中被炸身亡，为报血海深仇，方元舍弃家业而走上抗日之路。在铲除汉奸时，方元隐隐感觉陈如歌并非汉奸，二人随即陷入汉奸设置的重重危机，从而刺杀变成了保护。其后在陈如歌的帮助下，方元加入了中国共产党领导的抗日队伍，并在抗日救国行动中与陈如歌相知、相爱。二人的爱情历经战火洗礼，经过几次生死离别之后，方元与陈如歌在工作中产生误会，导致二人情感破裂，在感情路上分道扬镳。但二人共同的爱国、救国情怀令他们彼此挂念，最终在抗日战争全面胜利之时重新走到一起，携手迎接新中国的到来。。
