Somtum是泰国东北部传统菜式之一，也是最受外国朋友欢迎的泰国菜之一，以木瓜丝为主要用料，配以辣椒、柠檬汁、鱼露、花生、虾米凉拌而成，因此中文译名为“木瓜色拉”，影片讲述一个大块头老外吃了Somtum之后变身红色“大怪物”的故事，该片融合泰拳、自由搏击与逗趣搞笑于一身，极具泰国风情。。1980年的德意志民主共和国，有一个叫做芭芭拉的女医生正在计划移民海外——毫无疑问，她要去到的国家是联邦德国，也就是西德。因为这种想法，她被当地政府多处罚，从首都的医院被“下放”到了一个乡村的卫生所里。而她那个远在西德的爱人，正在帮助她筹划着从波罗的海离开东德。而现在的芭芭拉，只能慢慢等待。
