拥有着12个孩子的欢乐家庭——贝克家族如今也难逃岁月出的难题。随着长女诺拉（派珀·佩拉博 Piper Perabo 饰）出嫁怀孕，孩子洛林又远赴纽约深造，身为家长的汤姆（史蒂夫·马丁 Steve Martin 饰）深感家庭聚会的时间将越来越少，今年假期也许是最后一个全员出游的机会，于是他和妻子凯特（邦尼·亨特 Bonnie Hunt 饰）精心策划了一个温内特湖畔的温馨旅行计划。然而汤姆万万没想到的是，他学生时代的宿敌吉米（尤金·列维 Eugene Levy 饰）竟然也带着自己的8个孩子来到了温内特湖消遣夏日。两个处处较劲的老爸，两个闹哄哄的家庭碰到一起，湖光山色瞬间变成火药味十足的战场，两家老小24口人全部出动，为了各自的“荣誉”，全力投入到这场鸡犬不宁、笑料百出的家庭大作战中……
